Resources for Teams

Here is where you can find all of the helpful guides written by us for you. The Unseen Galaxy guides won’t make your game for you, but they should help you figure out what it is you’re doing and how.

When setting up your team, take a look at our team plan to see who you need on your team and what their jobs are. Think about your skills. What are you good at? What would you like to do? Use the team plan to give everyone a role before you start the project so you can all work together well. Remember that you’re all working as a team. One person can’t do everything, make sure to help each other where you can, whether it’s your job to or not. A good studio always helps each other out.

After setting up your team, take a look at your game brief. Your brief will contain a theme that you should focus on when developing your game. Briefs can be a general idea, a single mechanic or something else entirely. Take a look at your brief and think about how to incorporate it. Can you make particular style choices? How do you include it in gameplay? While you’re thinking about these things, you should create a Game Design Document (GDD). Use our GDD guide to help you get started. Although this is one of the Game Designer’s main responsibilities, everyone should be involved in creating your GDD.

There’s lots to be done over the next few weeks. You’ll want to follow the six main stages of game development. Take a look at our game development guide to see how the stages are broken up, as well as what needs to be done during each one. Don’t worry if you don’t fit exactly into each one. They’re a rough guide, not rigid instructions.

Some of the roles within game development are more self explanatory than others. For that reason, we’ve written a production guide for the producer on your team. This should explain in more detail what is expected of a producer during game development.

Similarly to our production guide, we have created a marketing guide to give your marketing manager an idea of what they should be doing and how. Make sure to market the game alongside development. Don’t wait until the game is complete to create your plan!

Once you’re nearing completion, your producer will want to start thinking about your submission. Take a look at our submissions guide to get an idea of what we’ll need from you.

When you’re ready, head over to the submission form and send us your game!
